About Antwerp Port Authority

The Port of Antwerp is home to the largest (petro)chemical cluster in Europe. Seven of the world’s top ten (petro)chemical companies have one or more production units in the Antwerp Chemical Cluster. There are five refineries, four steam crackers and a number of downstream production facilities. the Port of Antwerp can be defined as a diversified cluster.

The Port of Antwerp is also a main port. In 2007 Antwerp Port Operators handled almost 183 million tons of liquid bulk, dry bulk, containers and general cargo. Thanks to the recently opened Deurganck Dock, the Port of Antwerp expanded its container handling capacity by more than 7 million TEU and thus doubling its current capacity. On the liquid bulk side, the Port is also doubling its storage capacity thanks to expansions of the existing independent tank storage operators in combination with the settlement of four new terminals. These investments ensure congestion free terminals and a smooth and swift transfer to the European market.
